Quote from s01id :If there were tuning, only about 50% (maybe little more, maybe little less) of people would have identical cars, because almost everyone has their own driving style and there are no ideal setups. However, if there were no tuning, people would DEFINITELY have 100% identical cars because you just couldn't modify them.

Bold text is true. But what has that got to do with rimz and neonz and stupid bodykits?

Besides even now, without tuning, most people racing have different setups.

About the usefulness of skins in racing. Why aren't all real word racing cars a single colour? Might it be because it's easier to spot different colours on cars than slight alterations in shape when they go fast? Or can you spot a half a degree difference on the rear wing of a F1 car when it's barreling down a straight?

Only noticeable tuning are the horrible bodykits. I have nothing against adding them at some point in the far future. But only if they add the extra weight too.

I got my Silver license by starting at the rear and avoiding all the accidents on South City tracks.

Easy if you remember to slow down for the yellow flags.

Where the hell are you guys when I'm all alone on the Race 2?

Sometimes some people come to the server but mostly I'm there all alone. Except for some unlicensed ones who get the boot.

Becky, it's a bit trivial already on Race 2. I get 28 points per race driving alone. I think my last 10000 points have been gathered as a Lonely Driver. Has my race craft improved? I doubt it. I have more points than you or Sam. But could I compete with you in a race? Well maybe with Sam but, pardon the expression, I doubt I'd get anywhere near your ass.

Come on you lot! Stop my advance in points and make me learn how to race the TBOs!

Edit:
@menantoll
That's how I got my Platinum on Race 2 when it was dual class. I was the sole competitor in the TBO class. The LRF scared me those days.

Was fun but lonely. Sprint went very good but burned the tyres in the feature.

Maybe I should try to make better sets.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :my thinking being if I stayed behind them it would pressure them

As the guy who mostly gets passed I think that is a good way to handle it. There is nothing more pressuring than a much faster car at your rear bumper.

Furthermore I think it's less damaging to your time to be passed by a faster car than being tailgated by one. And having to wonder whether his braking points are very different from mine. Yes I can report him after he wipes me out but I don't get any points for that.

If there is a significant difference in speed I tend to indicate for him to pass me. Besides if I let him through I get to learn from his line

There is another drift vs grip vid where the drifter won.

Anyone notice the lap time? Looks like 1:44.something... IIRC my standing start laps on the old BL1r were in the vicinity of 1:35 or 1:36 with the XRT. And I'm slow.

Suggestion:

Copper = XFG and XRG
Bronze = UF-BR
Silver = TBO
Gold = GFR
Platinum = GT2
Titanium = GTR

Or maybe seperate the road cars from the slick cars?
XFG/XRG -> TBO -> LRF
UF-BR -> GFR -> GT2 -> GTR

Quote from Gills4life :slides into the corner and straightens up on the exit

That's a good definition of a good drift

Quote from Gills4life :Drifting is sliding the car for show, trying to look good and trying to maintain a long slide. Powersliding is sliding the car through a corner to get around it quicker.

Powersliding, atleast all the definitions I've heard before this one, is accelerating hard out of a corner and letting the rear slide. That is one form of drifting. Drift Bible calls it power over.

Drifting is not just show drifting. You have to remember that.

Quote from The Moose :In 99% of 'crying wolf' cases there is a problem.

Yes, 90% have the attention whore syndrome.

I find nothing more disgusting than people who threaten to kill themselves. I believe it's more stresfull for the friends and relatives to live in fear of the suicide than in the aftermath.

If you really want to kill yourself STFU and
Quote from Nike :Just Do It!

And before you all say I don't know WTF I'm talking about I happen to know both kind of suiciders. One friend of our family killed herself by walking into the sea. No threats just a note. Ofcourse everyone was a bit shocked but she did what she wanted to do.
Now a friend of mine had a "friend" who used to call him and threaten to kill himself. My friend always tried to talk him out of it and was all stressed out by the calls.
Now which way is more selfish?

One thing that noone seems to be able to tell me is: Where, or when, drifting becomes "gripping" or "gripping" becomes drifting?

Is it a certain slip angle that differentiates between the two? What is that angle? Because you can't turn a car without slipping. If you have set up toe to have a value different from 0, you can't even drive straight without slipping.

I get the fastest times in BL1 with the XRG by letting it slide through corners. But only a little. If I have to counter steer I loose time. But if I drive like that on a server with the drift point InSim I get no points.

About Initial D.
In the anime, if you watch the whole series, you'll notice a shift in focus from drifting to being fast. This is best noticed in the last races of Stage 4 when our heroes go against Kozo Hoshino and Toshiya Joushima.

About the moisture.

If some of the water is in liquid form when the tyre is cold and as the tyre warms up it evaporates. Then the pressure is increased even more.

Even if the temperature wont reach the boiling point of water in said pressure the water liquid and vapour equilibrium state does change according to temperature.

Whether there is enough moisture in a tyre to achieve this I don't know.

Quote from Hallen :So the question that comes to my mind is this: Why do things get hot when flexed?

Friction between the molecules of the matter.
Quote :Do all materials behave the same when flexed?

Yes, all heat up. But the amount differs.
Quote :For example, does metal and rubber create the same amount of heat when flexed the same amount?

Depends on what you mean by "amount". If both are rods of similar dimensions and are bent to the same angle and back the same amount of times then the metal will heat up more. But if you put the same amount of energy into the bending process of both of them then it is a whole different story.

You can try this at home with a piece of copper rod and a small rubber hose.
But be carefull not to burn your fingers on the rod because it can get pretty hot if you bend it fast enought.

Air temperature inside the tyre, temperature of the rubber carcass and tread temperature are different things.

LFS F9 display shows the air temperature inside the tyre and the temperature of the rubber carcass. You can see the tread temperature by clicking on some button while the F9 screen is displayed (can't remember which button).

Now if you lower the air pressure inside the carcass it will heat up more. Raising the pressure will stiffen the carcass and it wont heat up so fast. Less deformation.
I'm no expert on tyre physics, but it does sound plausible that the tread has to work more with higher pressure inside the tyre and that in turn would cause more heating. Whether this would make a significant change in the whole carcass temperature I doubt.

Quess I have some testing to do... Now if I only could remember what button to press to get those tread temperatures..
